What is Juvederm Voluma?
Juvederm Voluma is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel filler that uses Vycross technology. The gel is more viscous than the Juvederm used for plumping the lips and smoothing wrinkles throughout the face. This makes it easier to sculpt and better suited for use in the cheeks. As a matter of fact, Voluma is the only FDA-approved soft tissue filler intended for use in the cheeks. The subtle lift it provides for the apple, apex, and hollows are beneficial to patients who have developed a thin, tired-looking face and wish to alter it into one that is vibrant and youthful. The hyaluronic acid will draw moisture to the area and support the aging skin that often loses volume because of a decrease in collagen production.
What are the Benefits?
Voluma offers patients looking for a more youthful look many benefits. Not only does the product restore fullness to the cheeks and mid-face, but it may also help to eliminate the need for additional treatments with other fillers around that area. Injections are non-invasive and performed in less than half an hour, sometimes taking only 15 minutes. No downtime is needed following the use of Voluma, making it very convenient for busy patients on the go. The results will rejuvenate the appearance of the face and continue to provide a lift for the cheeks for up to two years.
Who is a Candidate for Juvederm Voluma?
Currently, patients over the age of 21 with concerns about loss of volume in the cheek region are approved by the FDA for treatment with Voluma. Any skin type may be treated without risk of pigmentation changes. Because it is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a substance natural to the human body, allergy testing is not needed prior to treatment. Patients should be in good health and understand the benefits and limitations of Voluma. If treatment in other areas of the face is also desired, other injectable agents may be used, such as Botox or Restylane.
What Elements of the Face May Benefit From Juvederm Voluma?
- Restores lost volume to the cheeks
- Softens some wrinkles in the mid-face
How is a Juvederm Voluma Injection Performed?
Dr. Clevens performs Voluma injections in the comfort of his Melbourne, FL practice. Treatment can be very quick, averaging 15 to 20 minutes. The length of the procedure is dependent on the extent of correction desired and may vary. Voluma already contains lidocaine in the mixture, so anesthesia is not necessary. However, the comfort of our patients is important and arrangements can be made if you feel you will need something else.
Once the site has been cleansed and prepared, a thin needle will be used to inject the Voluma into the cheeks. The filler is carefully sculpted to create the most natural looking and aesthetically pleasing contours for the cheeks. Dr. Clevens has extensive experience with advanced injection techniques and is able to deliver optimal results.
Some redness, swelling, and bruising may occur following injection. This is common with the use of all fillers. The side effects are temporary and will subside soon afterwards. Despite these minor irritations, patients are welcome to return to their normal activities right away without worry of harming the newly shaped cheeks.
