The holiday season is a great time for a partner to pop the question and many brides-to-be find themselves saying "yes" around New Year’s. Even if you still have several months, or even a year, to go before your wedding, there’s no better time to start planning.
Today’s wedding planning typically involves more than just picking out a dress, makeup and hairstyle for the big day. You might also find yourself deciding to finally take care of those little issues that bother you, whether they are dark spots, wrinkles or that extra inch of fat around your abs. Since no bride wants to walk down the aisle with a bandage on her face or with peeling skin, it’s important to schedule cosmetic treatments well in advance of your big day.
If you have a few wrinkles that you don’t want showing up in wedding photos, a few non-surgical options can help you smooth things over before the wedding. Lines created by muscle movements, such as crow’s feet outside the eyes or frown lines between your brows can be reduced with Botox, Xeomin or Dysport injections. The three brands feature a similar ingredient, which blocks the signals sent by the nerves to specific muscles, reducing movements and helping lines fade.
The results from the injections usually last about three months and take up to a week to appear. For that reason, it’s a good idea to schedule your injections in advance of your wedding. At a minimum, schedule your treatment at least three weeks before your big day. If you want to see how you’ll look after treatment without risk, schedule an injection six months before your wedding. If you like the results, repeat it before the ceremony.
Ditch Dark Spots
Sun exposure, birth control pills and acne can all cause dark spots, or hyperpigmentation, to occur on the skin. While a few freckles here and there can look cute, few people want to pose for their wedding photos with large dark spots on their face or hands. Fortunately, there are a few treatments that quickly remove the dark spots, without leaving you laid up for weeks.
If there’s only a few weeks to go before your wedding, a non-ablative laser skin treatment might be the best option for you. Non-ablative lasers leave the top layer of skin intact, so that the recovery time is shorter. There’s no peeling and little redness after the treatment. More in depth, ablative treatments, which do destroy the top layer of skin, will require a bit of downtime, so that the skin can heal. If you have plenty of a time before your wedding, usually at least a few months, an ablative treatment might be your best option, since the results will be more dramatic and noticeable.
No matter which type of laser you decide on, protecting your skin after treatment is a must, before and after the wedding. Keep out of the sun and, if you do go outside, wear a sunscreen. If your wedding is going to be outdoors, stay in the shade as much as possible and consider carrying a pretty umbrella or wearing a lovely hat.
Remove Unwanted Hair
The last thing you want to do is cut yourself shaving the day before your wedding. For that reason, laser hair removal might be just the thing. As with other pre-wedding beauty treatment, scheduling hair removal before your wedding takes some planning. Depending on how much hair you want removed, you might need several treatments.
During the treatment, the heat from the laser destroys the hair follicle, preventing regrowth. In many cases, the results are permanent. It’s a good idea to start your treatments about six months before the wedding, to make sure the hair is fully gone before the big day.
Add Some Contour
If you’ve reached your goal weight, but still have some areas of stubborn fat you’d like to blast away before you get married, a body contouring procedure, such as Smart Lipo, might be worth considering. Smart Lipo is designed to remove fat deposits from specific areas, such as the thighs, love handles and abs.
Since the treatment uses lasers to melt away the fat, it’s less invasive than other liposuction options, meaning the recovery time is shorter. While you might feel back to your old self again a few days after treatment, this is another procedure that should be scheduled well in advance. If you schedule it for six months before your wedding, odds are likely that the results you want will be visible by the time you say "I do."
