The lines on your face are starting to get to you, but your busy schedule doesn’t include time to set aside to recover from a surgery such as a facelift or brow lift. A surgical procedure doesn’t fit with your budget at the moment, either. If the idea of spending a week or more recovering is what’s keeping you from doing something about the signs of aging on your face, a few solutions are available.
Certain treatments, such as less invasive surgery or injections, provide almost instant results. The recovery time from these procedures or treatments is also considerably shorter than the recovery from invasive surgery, so you’ll be back on your feet with a more youthful look in almost no time.
Made from naturally occurring substances, injectable fillers instantly fill in wrinkles, usually by the mouth and nose. Certain fillers, such as Juvederm, Perlane and Restylane, are made from hyaluronic acid. Your body produces its own hyaluronic acid, but makes less and less of it as you get older. The substance is responsible for giving your skin a plump appearance and for keeping it from drying out too much.
Losing hyaluronic acid as you get older causes the skin to lose some of its shape and structure. The result is more lines and folds, particularly by the sides of the mouth and nose. Non-surgical anti-aging treatments such as Juvederm or Perlane restore the substance and fill in the lines that form. The results are visible right after the injection and typically last from six months up to a full year, depending on the product used.
In most cases, you’ll be able to get back to your daily life right after the injection. There may be some redness or bruising at the injection site, but that should fade within a few days.
Botox, Xeomin and Dysport
Another quick way to fight the signs of aging on your face is by getting Botox, Dysport or Xeomin injections. The three injectables are made from botulinum toxin, which blocks nerve signals to certain muscles. Botox and similar injections are used to help reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, which are created by muscle movements. The injections are commonly used on the frown lines that form between the eyebrows and on crow’s feet in the corners of the eyes.
Unlike injectable fillers, it does take a few days for the effects of Botox, Dysport or Xeomin to appear. You need to be careful not to rub the treated area right after the injection, as doing so can cause the toxin to move to another part of your face, causing serious side effects. Results typically last a few months.
Not every surgery has an extensive recovery time. The weekend necklift earns its name because patients can recover quickly — if not within a weekend, then at least within a week.
The surgery gives you a more youthful-looking neck by removing excess fat from the area through liposuction. After the fat is removed, the doctor tightens the muscles in the neck. Finally, he performs laser skin resurfacing on the area to improve the texture of the skin. Usually, the entire surgery takes less than an hour to perform.
Small incisions are made by the ears and sutures are used to close the incisions. You can easily hide the incisions with your hair. Since the amount of bruising is minimal, you’ll be back on your feet and out in the world before you know it.
Another quick way to reduce the signs of aging on your face is by using radiofrequency. Pelleve is a skin tightening system that is less invasive than laser skin resurfacing and that requires less recovery time. The treatment gently heats up the skin, stimulating the production of collagen, which helps reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. While results are visible right away, the skin continues to improve as more collagen is produced.
The treatment itself takes less than one hour. Some patients only need a single treatment while others benefit from several sessions.
